Advocate Harbour Sea Kayaking base for Advocate Kayak Adventures and NovaShores Kayak Adventures

Our Bay of Fundy Tours

Imagine kayaking on a body of water with the highest tides on Earth! That's the thrill of the Bay of Fundy. Our paddling routes are selected to safely explore the awesome beauty of the Bay of Fundy’s Cape Chignecto area. The meeting point for all tours is in Advocate Harbour. From there you drive in your own car to our put-in at Spicer's Cove, a beautiful wild beach. Our put-in spot and departure time depend on wind and tide conditions and can be different from day to day but most tours will depart from Spicer's Cove to paddle to the legendary Three Sisters.  From beginner to expert kayaker, you will not find a more awe inspiring coast to paddle in Nova Scotia. If you want to spend some time in this area and are interested in seeing more of what Advocate Harbour  is like check this video.  Please note that this Advocate Kayak Adventures page is part of the NovaShores Adventures site where you can find out more about our other kayak adventures and locations, check for accommodations and research other things to do in the areas we paddle in Nova Scotia.

The Three Sisters is one of the destinations highlighted in the film Eastern Horizons. This film highlights the top paddling destinations in eastern North America, from Newfoundland to Georgia USA. Here is a link to a trailer for that film. Please note that the paddlers in this film are professional paddlers and we do not take our guests into the extreme conditions shown in parts of the film - our tours are suitable for beginners and for those experienced paddlers looking for a truly unique paddling destination. So come join us if you want to discover why the author of 'Sea Kayaking in Nova Scotia' writes "While tourists may round the Cabot Trail, sun on P.E.I.'s beaches or marvel at the Hopewell flowerpots, no signs point the way here - to the most spectacular region of all" while describing Cape Chignecto. The coastline along Cape Chignecto Park offers a truly spectacular, wild and unspoiled landscape. You will be paddling into a fascinating world of towering cliffs and rock spires. Some sea caves allow you to paddle in at high tide while at low tide you can explore them on foot. We paddle to the legendary Three Sisters rock formation, the crown jewel of Cape Chignecto Park. Due to the paddling conditions found on the Bay of Fundy and the increased safety with the added stability of double kayaks, we use all double kayaks on this tour. The doubles are great for taking photos and easy to use for beginners!
Cape Chignecto park paddles to incredible views of the Bay of FundyOn the escarpment white tailed deer might be standing undisturbed while the Bald Eagle is often more cautious and take off if we get within its comfort zone. From crevices in the rocks the little black Guillemot's fly out at high speed - a bird related to the Puffins. Fishing cormorant's, Loons and curious seals are often a welcome part of our kayaking experience.

Our day tour includes a relaxing stop at a pristine beach where we will treat you to a delicious lunch with local produce, home bake and hot drinks.

We paddle in Cape Chignecto Park for the Fundy Explorer departing from Spicer's Cove to explore the famous Three Sisters rock formation. This tour does run from Spicer's Cove to the Three Sisters almost every day! After an invigorating voyage kayaking into the geological wonderland carved by the planets largest tides of the Bay of Fundy we will enjoy a delicious fresh caught lobster dinner on a picturesque wild beach.

Tides ‘n Tails is a full day of adventure and discovery. We will start with a paddle along the shores of Cape Chignecto, where you will learn about the legends of Glooscap and a dramatic geological history that is displayed in the towering cliffs we paddle along. After kayaking to the imposing natural stone sculptures of the Three Sisters we will enjoy lunch at Eatonville, the site of a major shipbuilding and sawmill town during the age of sail, now returned to nature.

Your guides will tell the tales of how continental plates collided and then tore apart to create a shore of diverse volcanic rock, where once sea level beaches now hang 100 feet above our heads, red rhyolite interspersed with black diabase dykes create a colourful geological display and sea stacks and arches produce an awe inspiring natural open air cathedral. Our lunch will include local delicacies such as Dulse (seaweed), and local organically grown produce plus home baked goods using local ingredients like blueberries. After the kayak tour we will gather for a bonfire on a beautiful wild beach where we will treat you to fresh caught Bay of Fundy lobster. The lobster we use isn’t from stores or lobster pounds, but top quality fresh from the fishing boats of Advocate Harbour.

Since we use only fresh caught lobster this experience is only available from May 15th to July 30th. (There is a big difference between lobsters in stores and restaurants and what we serve as ours come right off the boats, whereas the lobster from other sources can have been held without food for days to months.)

Lobster lunch on the Fundy Tour by Kayak, Nova Shores We paddle to the legendary Three Sisters rock formation, the crown jewel of Cape Chignecto Park. Due to the paddling conditions found on the Bay of Fundy and the increased safety with the added stability of double kayaks, we use all double kayaks on this tour. Our day tours include a relaxing stop at a pristine beach where we will treat you to a delicious meal with local produce, home bake and hot drinks. In addition, this adventure also includes a lobster boil on the Driftwood Beach at Advocate Harbour.

We usually depart from Spicer's Cove in Cape Chignecto Park, paddling to the Three Sisters rock formation. This tour does run from Spicer's Cove to the Three Sisters every day that the weather allows! For a short video of where NovaShores Adventures paddles on the Bay of Fundy you can go to this link at YouTube here.

Practical stuff:
The paddling part of this tour normally lasts roughly 5 hours from start to finish, the lobster boil will usually start around 5:30 -7:30 pm so you will need to plan on staying in the Advocate area to partake in this ultimate maritime experience. The timing of the lobster boil is dependent on the launch time of the tour that day. From our meeting point in Advocate Harbour it is roughly a 30 minute scenic drive to the put-in spot of the day. You drive your own vehicle to Spicer’s Cove. It's a photographer's dream. We supply a dry bag for your camera. You should bring a water bottle, which you can fill at the office if needed.

Day tours have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 guests. We start with basic instruction in paddling and safety. Beginners are welcome. Day tours are in double kayaks. We will usually paddle up to 90 minutes before stopping to stretch and explore. Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the departure time.

If NovaShores cancels there will be no charge. In case of a no-show without cancellation the full cost of the tour will be charged to your credit card. This tour is our most popular and you should book well in advance due to our one tour a day and small groups.

Kayaking at Cape Chignecto on a clear day is an awesome experience

Seal in the Bay of Fundy Seal Cove Adventure

2 day kayak adventure
July, August and September
Cost $350 including park fees*

Book this Nova Scotia Kayak Adventure

Our two day kayak adventure begins at Spicer's Cove at the northern entrance to Cape Chignecto Provincial Park. At an upcoming tide we can sit in our kayaks and just wait for the water to float us. It will be your first of many unique Fundy moments on this adventure.

Camp at Seal Cove along the Bay of FundyWe go on to discover a magnificent and colorful coastline as we paddle towards the legendary Three Sisters rock formation, checking out the most interesting caves, arches and rock spires as we go - not to mention the elevated beach at Squally Point. After the glaciers retreated 11,000 years ago the land has slowly rebounded 35 meters above today's sea level!

We will explore the Three Sisters either from our kayaks or on foot depending on the tide, then it's on to the historic lumber and ship building site, Eatonville Harbour, which will be our first rest stop for a delicious lunch with local produce and hearty home baked delights.

Back in the kayaks we will paddle further down along the rugged and pristine coastline towards Seal Cove, our beach campsite for the night. Relax on the beach or go for a short hike along the parks coastal trail that offers magnificent views from the top of the escarpment. A little stream gives the option of cleaning off the saltwater while we set up camp and prepare a gourmet supper including a delicious dessert and wine.

You might wake up in the morning to strange sounds you have never heard before. It's the Grey Seals bellowing from coves nearby. After a hearty breakfast we are ready to go see the seals resting on rocks in family groups, watched by the enormous males. We keep a fair distance to the wildlife, but still we get a wonderful sensation of being part of something bigger than us.

On our way back to Spicer's Cove we will enjoy another delicious lunch on a secluded beach. Going back the same way is not like driving on the same stretch of road; with a tidal difference of up to 12 meters you will be amazed how that changes the appearance of the coastline.

Tour dates:  Please let us know your travel plans and we'll do what we can to make your adventure be part of our 2013 schedule.

Practical stuff:

We provide 2-person tents and sleeping pads while you bring your own sleeping bag and personal items. On reservation we give you a full list of equipment and clothing needed. Bear in the Marsh Cape Chignecto Adventure

3 day kayak adventure
July, August and September
Cost $550 including park fees*

Book this Nova Scotia Kayak Adventure

Our three day kayak adventure begins at Spicer's Cove at the northern entrance to Cape Chignecto Provincial Park or from Red Rocks, paddling to Spicer's Cove. We will paddle the entire Cape Chignecto Park coastline on this tour. You can read more about this unique destination in this article from "Sea Kayaking in Nova Scotia" by Scott Cunningham http://www.coastaladventures.com/CapChig.html  If you do read this article, one noticeable difference on our tour is our ability to avoid all encounters with mud as we use the more suitable Spicer's Cove launch.

WaterfallIf paddling from Spicer's Cove the tour starts with a paddle along the towering conglomerate cliffs and fault lines on the way to the legendary Three Sisters rock formation, checking out the most interesting caves, arches and rock spires as we go - not to mention the elevated beach at Squally Point. After the glaciers retreated 11,000 years ago the land has slowly rebounded 35 meters above today's sea level!

We will explore the Three Sisters either from our kayaks or on foot depending on the tide, then it's on to the historic lumber and ship building site, Eatonville Harbour. We will spend some time in this area before continuing down the rugged and pristine coastline towards Seal Cove, our beach campsite for the night. Relax on the beach or go for a short hike along the parks coastal trail that offers magnificent views from the top of the escarpment. A little stream gives the option of cleaning off the saltwater while we set up camp and prepare a gourmet supper including a delicious dessert and wine. We may also opt to paddle back to the Three Sisters to check it out at a different tide level before we settle in for the evening.

From Seal Cove we continue down the coast exploring formations such as the arch at Keyhole Brook, more sea stacks and on to the Cape of Chignecto.  Here we will time rounding the cape to the tides. On rounding the cape you will come to the awe inspiring Devils Slide and then on to the huge sea stack known as Old Sal, marking the entrance to beautiful Refugee Cove where we camp for the night. This area has the highest sea cliffs in Nova Scotia and you will have time to explore the trails if desired.

After a night on the beach we continue down the magnificent coastline, taking time to check out the waterfalls and interesting geological formations that are in abundance along this coast, such as the imposing Arch Gulch. Our final stop will be at Red Rocks where we wil have arranged to have your vehicles, or a shuttle back to where you left them.  This adventure will allow you to witness the true nature of this fascinating body of water with the largest tides on earth.  Your knowledgeable and personable guide will have the time to share his knowledge and love for this dynamic environment  with you (not to mention his appreciation for good food) in a memorable setting.  We are sure you will want to come back to explore further this wild and rugged part of Nova Scotia, and hope you will!Cape Chignecto Kayak Tour
