Beginners are welcome
Kayaking is an activity that is truly for everyone! Regardless if you are a beginner or experienced paddler, you will be comfortable and safe in our kayaks. Our locations are ideal for the beginner, with options for those who wish to improve their skills. You will receive basic instruction in paddling techniques and use of the equipment before you start out in sheltered waters. You will be surprised how quick you get the hang of it!
Great experience for beginners like us.
Thanks for all the support.
Judy & John Stewart, Halifax, Nova Scotia
We do not compromise on safety
We
will supply you with all the necessary safety and paddling gear. Our quality touring kayaks are modern, stable and easy to handle. Each tour will be tailored to the skills of our guests and adjusted to whatever the wind and waves permits. To enhance safety we only go out in small groups. However, clients participate at their own risk and must sign a waiver for personal responsibility.

Your guides guarantee a quality experience
Fundy guides: Werner
and Else Marie Ostermann own and operate NovaShores Adventures, an
adventure company founded ten years ago. They have canoed and kayaked
for a combination of more than 40 years. With certification in First Aid,
CPR, and provincial (BC) certification in conservation and outdoor
recreation education, we ensure you have a safe and enjoyable adventure.
Both Werner and Else Marie are avid outdoors people who have perfected
their skills while paddling all across Canada and in the waters
surrounding Denmark . As the owners and full time guides of NovaShores we
take pride in giving you a high quality experience to remember. We also
ensure any guides we employ meet our high standards to ensure customer
satisfaction and safety.
Luciano Onichino, or 'Looch', started running tours
with NovaShores in 2008. A gregarious storyteller with years of experience
playing, working and exploring in the Cape Chignecto area Looch is sure to
make any tour a memorable experience. Trained as a paramedic he is very
safety conscious and will go the extra mile to ensure his tours are fun
filled learning experiences for everyone. Looch specializes in our
overnight tours where his culinary skills are much
appreciated.
Sean Mooring is our resident
guide in training. Sean recently completed the Wilderness First Aid course
and will be assisting our experienced guides on many day tours this
season.
Loved it. My first time.
Werner & Else Marie made it such a pleasure. Thanks.

Glenn
and Kristen are your Dover location
owner/operators.
Dover guides: Glenn
Coltman, operating out of our East Dover location for the third year, has been kayaking in Nova Scotia for over 10 years, often all 12 months of the year! Glenn, a "Adventure Diploma" graduate is equally certified in First Aid, is a Paddle Canada Instructor in sea kayaking and canoeing, a certified sea kayak guide and a Rescue Canada Swiftwater Specialist. Along with his partner, Kristen, a certified Natural Nutritionist with a keen interest in local wildflowers, they will ensure a memorable experience for all.
We want to thank Glenn for a great kayak trip.
It was the first time we had a chance to go in a kayak and the trip was excellent.
Steve and Angele, Sudbury, Ontario
Liability
All clients taking a NovaShores tour are required to agree to and sign a personal liability waiver. Guests under 18 must have a parent or a guardian sign the waiver and children under 12 must also have a parent accompany them on the tour sharing a double kayak.
Note - A rescue is a
very unusual event on our tours, but they are practiced by our experienced
guides and done quickly when required. Statistically on our tours, out of
every 200 paddlers in single kayaks, 1 may capsize. In doubles it is
extremely unlikely to ever happen. In this unlikely event all that happens
is that you get wet. You are wearing a life jacket and your guide will
have you back in the kayak and into dry clothes that are carried in a dry
bag in minutes. We also carry hot water and coffee, tea or hot chocolate
to help warm you up, and a full range of first aid and rescue gear. On a
hot day you may even decide to enjoy the cool water!
Instruction
All tours start with basic instruction in paddling and safety. If you want to expand on that and learn more advanced kayaking skills or obtain Paddle Canada certification we also offer that option. We can run skill improvement courses on the Bay of Fundy or Dover locations and Paddle Canada certification courses from our Dover location.
