– About the Bay of Fundy –

Claim to fame are the world’s biggest tides, and there is so much more to discover! Canada’s oldest dinosaur finds, for example, or the fossil link between amphibians and reptiles.

You need to see these amazing tides for yourself! In our area, the difference between high and low tide can be up to 13 m or 40 feet. Really mind-boggling! There is so much to see and do here – the oldest dinosaur fossils at the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro, ancient amphibian and tropical plant fossils at the UNESCO Joggins Fossil Cliffs, and earth history that you can touch at the Cliffs of Fundy Geopark that stretches along our shore.

The Bay of Fundy area is steeped in Mi’kmaq legend and place names. Their presence dates back about 13,000 years. The name of the Bay, however, likely comes from the French Acadian settlers and is thought to be a corruption of the French word fendu, meaning ‘split’.

If you would like to get out on the Bay, but don’t want to kayak, check out the amazing zodiac tours at Advocate Boat Tours.
